Open A 51 def St Peter's 48

In the clash of the two undefeated SAAS heavyweights it was Trinity that took out a thriller 51-48.
Trinity’s plan was to exploit its significant height advantage and pound the ball inside, which it did to perfection, opening up an 11-2 early lead. Saints pegged the lead back in the latter stages of the first quarter to stay within striking range at 15-11. Kuai Deng was damaging with ten of this game-high 16 in the first quarter.
Scoring slowed to walking pace for both teams in the second quarter with Trinity (9pts) edging further ahead of Saint (8) for a slim 24-19 advantage at the half.
After the long break St Peter’s came out firing. Emil Korani had their first 12 points and Saints delivered the most dominant quarter of the game. The 14-8 term saw them snatch the lead at the final break.
The final quarter was a quarter befitting the top two teams in the league. The back-and-forth affair tilting Trinity’s way at the end. Big triples from Makai Dornford and Noah Villaneuva put the game away before a last-gasp three from Saints rendered the final score line.
It was pleasing to see the team maintain focus at both ends of the floor. Our shot selection was disciplined, and our unselfish passing created some high quality looks when we needed them. Our defence was solid for large portions of the game, and despite playing against some high-quality opponents, no-one was able to find a consistent avenue through our team defence.
There are lots of areas to improve, but if we maintain the consistent concentration we showed in this game, we will move closer to our goals.

Scorers: Kuai 16, Noah 10, Makai 8, Charlie 8
Best: Genuine team effort
