Open A 53 def by St Peter's - SAAS Grand Final

The Trinity/St Peter’s basketball rivalry continues to grow after St Peter’s turned the tables on a regular season defeat to triumph 61-53 in the SAAS A1 Grand Final on Saturday.
Trinity jumped out to an early 6-0 lead but then St Peter’s went on a 17-1 run into the second quarter to take a 17-7 lead. Trinity then went on a run of its own to tie the game at 26 just after half time.
Neither team could find an easy basket all game.
At our best, we were dominating inside with our size advantage, but untimely turnovers and poor shot selection thwarted our momentum. Saints, at their best, got into the open court where their strong guards finished well in transition. At crucial times they were able to find small openings in the Trinity defence and finish well in traffic, and as the game drew towards the latter stages, were able to draw away to a game-winning lead.
Excellent match to finish yet another terrific SAAS A1 basketball season. Trinity is left to lick its wounds, and prepare for the All-Schools quarter final against Modbury HS, where our ultimate goal of a state championship remains well in truly within our grasp.
